Memorial Services

During 2008 there will be two Memorial Services at the First Division Monument in Washington, DC. Due to security conditions in the vicinity of the White House they will be held on the north section of the Ellipse immediately south and within sight of our monument.

Veterans and friends are warmly invited to attend these services which remember the more than 13,000 valiant Americans who gave their lives under the 1st Infantry Division colors.

Before making final plans to attend, check the “CURRENT NEWS” on the HOME PAGE of this site for last-minute changes and advisories.

The First Division Monument is located at the corner of 17th and E Streets, Northwest, in DC, just in the shadow of the White House. Parking in the vicinity can be a challenge, but the monument is located only a short walk from the Farragut West and Farragut North metro stations.

MEMORIAL DAY
The Memorial Service will held be on Monday, May 26th at 11:00 am.

VETERAN'S DAY
The memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 11th at 11:00 am.

The Memorial Services at our DC Monument are traditionally held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in commemoration of the World War I Armistice which occurred at that time and which was formerly celebrated on November 11th as “Armistice Day.”

ANNUAL REUNION
The Memorial Service held at the Annual Reunion will be on Saturday, August 23rd at 8:00 am
