Member Benefits

The Society of the First Infantry Division is not about credit cards, life insurance, reduced rate auto rentals, travel discounts, and the like. It is about:

  • Continuing the Big Red One tradition of excellence.
  • Honoring our dead.
  • Living the First Division legacy
  • Taking care of our own

In support of these objectives we offer:

Bridgehead Sentinel
The official publication of the Society is published on a regular basis each year (currently three times) and mailed to all members. A copy is also mailed to every BRO unit. It contains news of present and former members, articles about Society activities and stories of the Division's exploits. The current issue of the Bridgehead Sentinel is available to read in the Members Only section of this site. Previous issues of the Bridgehead Sentinel are also available in an archive in the MEMBERS ONLY section of this site.

Annual Reunion
One of the Society's most important functions is to create an environment that facilitates the reuniting of Big Red One veterans within the context of their former units. Members and their families gather every year in a different city to renew old acquaintances and make new friends based on their common service and pride in the Big Red One. A Memorial Service honoring our battlefield dead is one of the highlights of these reunions. Units maintain their identity and unit pride at the reunions through their command posts (CPs) (hospitality rooms) and by seating as a unit at our banquets.

Merchandise
Members can display their Big Red One identity by purchasing a variety of high-quality division insignia and other merchandise items from the Supply Sarge. Credit card purchases are accepted. Life members enjoy a 10% discount on all purchases.

Information
The Society is a reliable source of information, referral and assistance on matters dealing with the 1 st Infantry Division. The “Current News” section of the Society web site is used for real time dissemination of news.

Publications
The Society has published histories of the division's exploits in WWI and WWII. It has also published two World War II and two Vietnam Yearbooks. Compendia of information on Operation Husky, the WW II landing in North Africa and Operation Overlord, the landing in Normandy have also been published. Members may order the more recent of these publications from the Supply Sarge. Several publications about the Big Red One and its units are available from the First Division Museum.

Battlefield Tours
Members are offered the opportunity to participate in escorted tours to the battlefields of Europe and Vietnam, where they may return to the places where they fought with the Big Red One.

Locator
Members can use the Member Directory in the Members Only section to determine whether a Big Red One buddy is also a member or to search for members from their unit.

Scholarships
Scholarship programs are available. See the Foundation section.

Calendar
Each member receives a copy of an annual calendar that celebrates the history of the Big Red One. Contributions are welcome, but no pressure is ever exerted.

Big Red One Support Fund
The BRO Support Fund is the means whereby the Society can financially assist active duty soldiers, family members and units in non-emergency situations. The Society's newly established CENTURY CLUB also helps fund these activities.

Web Site
The Society's great web site at www.1stID.org is a comprehensive source of all information about the Society and the 1 st Infantry Division Foundation. The Message Board is a very popular feature of this site.
