Scholarships

The Foundation provides two types of scholarship assistance.

  • DePuy Scholarships, named for GEN William E. DePuy, the 1st Infantry Division Commanding General who started the program during the Vietnam War, are provided for children of soldiers killed while serving in combat with the Division and in peacetime training accidents. More than 1,100 of these scholarships have been awarded.

Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. On behalf of the 1st Infantry Division Foundation, Society Executive Director Ed Burke presented scholarship certificates to Leanna, Rebekah and Thomas, Jr., children of COL Thomas Felts, a member of the 1st Infantry Division Iraqi Assistance Group who was killed in Iraq in November. COL Felts' widow, Kim, accepted a certificate for their fourth child, Sarah, who was in school at the time. Each certificate is valued at $10,000. Your legacy continues!

  • The current value of the DePuy Scholarships is $10,000 per child.  So far over 60 children have lost their fathers in Operation Iraqi freedom.

Click here for information on how these scholarships are awarded.

  • Huebner/Zimmerman Scholarships, named for LTG Clarence L. Huebner, who commanded the Big Red One during World War II and Pius and Ada Zimmerman, father and sister of Sarah Zimmerman, a friend of the 1st Infantry Division, are competitive scholarships for children and grandchildren of former members of the Division.
